Description
OCEANIC AERIS Velocity X3 Scuba Fins Size Reg (m 10-12/w 11-13)Split Fin Efficiency - Paddle Fin Power and Control.
The Velocity X3 accelerates with lightning speed as water comes into contact with the textured blade. Faster and more efficient, the Velocity X3 maintains comfort and control while enabling you to exert less effort, stress and strain with each stride.
During the fin stroke, water flow is directed through our exclusive Power Enhancing Vents (PEV’s) and off the fin tips, creating lift and forward propulsion. So much so, that the Velocity X3 is the only “paddle” fin that benefits from Nature’s Wing® Propeller Fin Technology. This helps reduce the stress on the divers leg while accelerating water over the blade; resulting in increased velocity. Water movement through the PEV’s also reduce lateral movement of the fin (wasted energy), increasing the efficiency of the kick.
Patented Nature's Wing Propeller Fin Technology in a Paddle Blade Design.
Power Enhancing Vents (PEV’s) accelerate water over the blade for increased velocity.
Over Sized side rails add rigidity for increased lift, power, and efficiency.
Easy on/off fin strap with thumb loop.
Rigid side rails for increased lift and efficiency.
Ergonomically designed foot pocket accommodates virtually all foot sizes and boot styles.
Angled blade for preferred angle of attack.
The Velocity X3’s angled blade features a large rubber center section flanked by rubber-reinforced thermoplastic side rails that tie into the foot pocket to add rigidity and pump up the kicking power. The center section has a series of Power Enhancing Vents (PEVs) that give the water pushed by the fin a place to go other than in front of the other fin, increasing kicking efficiency. The combined effect of rigid side rails and a pliable, vented center panel causes the blade to behave similarly to a split fin, with good blade flex and lots of get-up-and-go.
Performance
One of the faster fins in this year’s class, the X3 is easy on the legs when kicking in turbo mode, offering a good combination of flexibility and power. During ergo tests it delivered top-drawer performance in all kicking styles — flutter, frog and dolphin — and was very responsive in the corners. Testers found the foot pocket super comfortable — “I could wear it all day,” said one — and they loved the efficiency of the quick-release buckles. Plus, the nonskid pattern does a good job of keeping the fins under you on wet decks.
Aeris Velocity X3 Dive Fins accelerates with lightning speed as water comes into contact with the textured blade. Faster and more efficient, the Velocity X3 maintains comfort and control while enabling you to exert less effort, stress and strain with each kick. During the fin stroke, water flow is directed through Aeris exclusive Power Enhancing Vents (PEV's) and off the fin tips, creating lift and forward propulsion. So much so, that the Velocity X3 is the only paddle fin that benefits from Nature's Wing Propeller Fin Technology. This helps reduce the stress on the divers leg while accelerating water over the blade; resulting in increased velocity. Water movement through the PEV's also reduce lateral movement of the fin (wasted energy), increasing the efficiency of the kick. In addition, oversized side rails add rigidity for increased lift, power, and efficiency. Flexible channel directs water off the tip of the blade for improved power and efficiency. Ergonomically designed foot pocket accommodates virtually all foot sizes and boot styles. Velocity's angled blade is designed for the preferred angle of attack. Spring fin strap have a slimmer profile then most conventional fin straps reducing the potential of fouling with lines sea weed (kelp) or debris. Easy to use springs automatically compensates for different size feet and boots. Spring fin straps are easy to put on and take off and they are depth compensating because they will compress to changes in the thickness of your boots.
Foot-Pocket
The X3s have a capacious foot-pocket that enclosed my boot right up to the heel, so taking all the strain off calf muscles.
Blade
With strong side bars set in a rigid, colored-plastic surround, the blade dips away from the line of the foot to the water, so that a soft center-section scoops and propels the water backwards. This center-section has hundreds of pimples and raised lines that help to keep the water running smoothly over the blade, and prevent any tendency to aeration. Its a design reminiscent of the head of a humpback whale.
There is not a split blade in sight - even though the mark under the blade confirms that the design is by Pete McCarthy, the man who thought up the Natures Wing concept that has proved so popular in the USA.
Straps & Buckles
The straps are fitted using conventional quick-releases. I took advantage of this to substitute a pair of proprietary stainless-steel spring straps, now offered by many manufacturers as an extra-cost option. This makes fitting and removing the fins instantaneous, with no risk of a rubber strap breaking, and the strap is self-tightening, so that the fin is always held firmly on the foot. No effort is lost in fin-waggling!
